PR seeks flood damage assessment
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Zilla Parishad Member of 14th Kaying Anchal Samity, West Saing district today requested the Chief Minister to depute high level flood damage assessment team to take stock of the actual damages caused by flood at several villages of its areas so that relief could be provided to victims without delay. PR leader claimed that various granaries, paddy fields and rope bridges were destroyed by the flood water.

State level Rajya Puraskar Testing Camp
ITANAGAR, Jul 6: The district Headquarters of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Lohit district organized a five days state level Rajya Puraskar Testing Camp at Govt. Secondary School, Manmow from June 26 to 30. The camp was organized to evaluate and test the performance of Scouts and Guides who had earlier completed all requirements for Rajya Puraskar Award.
While inaugurating the camp, Mito Riba, headmaster of the Govt. Secondary School, Manmow, exhorted the Scouts and Guides to dedicate themselves for the noble task of nation building so as to become ideal citizens and role models for the society.
The State Training Commissioner S. Tiwari explained the objectives of the camp.
As many as 84 scouts and guides and 10 guides from Tirap, Changlang and Lohit districts attended the camp. The participants were evaluated on the basis of skills such as mapping, first aid, estimation and pioneering.

ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Lower Subansiri District Nyishi Students’ Union (LSDNSU) has reiterated its demand for action against the officers who were allegedly involved in misappropriation of fund in implementation of SSA project and Anganwadi centre at Sikhe village under Pistana circle.
The Union claimed that both the Anganwadi centre and Sikhe primary school extension class room were accommodated in one OBT building with gross violation of the SSA guidelines. Alleging misuse of fund in implementing the two separate projects, the Union further said that department concerned had released the payment for the schemes and accepted photos without proper verification of scheme implementation.

KHONSA, Jul 06: A Self Help Group (SHG) product exhibition cum sale was organized by CDPO office, Kanubari today to encourage the SHGs to come forward with their products for marketing and to get recognition of their products.
Kanubari ADC N.Wangjen explained the importance of SHGs and their role in changing the economic condition of people. He assured all possible help by the local administration in organizing such mela in future.

Hepatitis ‘B’ detection and treatment camps
Pasighat, Jul 06: A five days free Hepatitis ‘B’ detection and treatment camps at Pasighat town, Ayeng, Bilat, Pangin and Ledum villages were conducted by Regional Medical Research Centre, East Region (ICMR) Dibrugarh in collaboration with Arunachal Charity Home ( ACH ) Pasighat, informed Jobang Modi, Chairman (ACH).
About 2 % of the tested persons were found infected with Hepatitis ‘B’, the ACH chairman informed.
He thanked Dr. M. Perme DMO, Okom Yosung, ZPM and others who have rendered their valuable support and help to make the camps successful. He also informed that such camps would be held in future for the benefit of the general public. DIPRO

Minister hits back at orgs, rubbishes claim
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Rural Development Minister Tanga Byaling broke his silence and hit back at Arunachal Righteous Forum and All Arunachal Youth Association for demanding his resignation on his alleged involvement in illegal appointments and favoritism.
Condemning the allegation leveled against him by the organization duo, Byaling said that the claims were mere allegations and they were motivated by some vested interest persons to malign his political image.
Meanwhile Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress West Parliament strongly condemned the organizations for leveling allegation against the minister. It termed the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the image of the minister.
Poyom resigns as AAPSU GS
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: In a dramatic development, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) general secretary Tujum Poyom today resigned from the post of GS.
In his resignation letter, which was made available to this daily, he made it clear that his resignation is for the interest of union as he may not take responsibilities of union activities.
Poyom stated that he has been undergoing medical treatment at Hayat Hospital in Guwahati since May 3 last and is yet to be recovered.
Poyom was assaulted by members of his own union.

Celebrations to mark the 77th birth anniversary of Dalai Lama
TAWANG/BOMDILA, Jul 06: The 77th birth anniversary of the 14th Dalai Lama was celebrated at Tawang and Bomdila with much fanfare today.
People from different walks of lives gathered at the Urgelling Gompa Tawang, the birth place of the 6th Dalai Lama and offered prayers for the long life of the Dalai Lama.
Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen, MLA Tsewang Dhondup, Guru Rimpoche, Serjey Jamyang Chhoekhorling Rimpoche, Ex Minister Thuptan Tempa and public leaders and HoDs of the district were present on the occasion. The celebration began with a portrait Parikrama of Dalai Lama around the Urgelling Gompa.
Later Dentsik Monlam (Prayer for long life) and Gyalwa Shabten ( prayer for peace and harmony) were offered by the monks of the Serjey Jamyang Chhoekorling Monastery.
Tawang MLA Tsewang Dhondup explained the importance of the day and also appealed to the people to inculcate the teachings of Dalai Lama.
Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen, DC while offering prayers for his long life said that Dalai Lama is not only a renowned Buddhist spiritual leader but also a great philosopher and a great statesman. He appealed to the people to preserve the local tradition and culture, and also emphasized the importance of science and technology for development of society.
Appreciating the scenic beauty of the district the DC sought cooperation from the people of the district for its development. He later announced a financial package of Rs 10 lakhs from the district administration for infrastructure development at the Urgelling Gompa.
Guru Rimpoche( Abbot Tawang Monastery) and Thuptan Khedup (Member, Tangyenm Tsokpa) also spoke on the occasion.
A colourful display of cultural programmes by local artists, students of various schools of the district, artists of Lhakpa Entertainment Group Dehradun, artists of 35 GR Jazz Band and also artists of various organizations of the district marked the celebration.
The 14th Dalai Lama also religiously known as Tenzin Gyatso was born on 6th July 1935 to a farming and horse trading family in the small hamlet of Takster in the eastern border of Amdo in Tibet. At Bomdila, the birthday of Dalai Lama was celebrated amidst much fanfare and revelry at Buddha Peace Park.

RUKSIN, Jul 06: Torrential rain has badly affected horticultural gardens, fish ponds, water pipelines and damaged a large portion of crop fields at Mirem village under Bilat circle in East Siang district.
Heavy downpour on Wednesday submerged the Latu Irrigation channel and created havoc
in low lying areas of the village along Pasighat-
Surging water of the channel eroded four fish ponds in the village and also damaged the water pipelines at several locations besides damaging several hectares of rice cultivation.
Overflowing water uprooted a number of bamboo bushes at its upstream.
Latu irrigation channel, which was reportedly constructed in 1947, is constantly overflowing. The villagers are fully dependent on it for wet rice crops cultivation in the vast area.
Villagers say the natural flow of the channel exerted from Remi river had never triggered such devastation during the last five decades.

Landowners oppose 132 KV Pasighat–Roing transmission line

ROING, Jul 06: Landowners concerned with the proposed route of 132 KV Pasighat-
According to some of the landowners, the line will condemn the private lands in this area on pretext of ‘beneficial’ public projects. The area which is partly forested, partly settled with some agricultural plots is contiguous to Roing town, and the landowners view that these lands in future will be an extension for the growing township.
The transmission line is a prioritized project of the state and central government
to improve the failing power scenario in the districts of East Siang, Lower Dibang

In the rudimentary map prepared by Powergrid, as the locals allege, many of the land owner names were inaccurately marked. Pasighat, Jul 06: The School Management and Development Committee (SDMC) and the teaching community should help the children for their overall development and equip them with necessary knowledge and skills to face the challenges of life, said East Siang Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma.
“They should be moulded in such a way that they contribute to the society and become worthy citizen of the nation,” the Deputy Commissioner said while inaugurating a two days training programme under Rastriya Madhyamic Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) for SDMC members, principals and headmasters of various of various Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools of East Siang District today.
While appreciating the contribution of the teachers in the education sectors where remarkable progress has been made, Mishra urged them to use Hindi also to create more national integrity. He exhorted the teachers to be punctual and disciplined and inspire the children to achieve ambitious goals. He suggested them to make education more entertaining besides helping the students to develope reading habit for effective education.
“The teachers should be expert in the art of channelizing the energy of the children in the right direction and their goal and purpose should be clear. They should able to instil determination, attentiveness, alertness and the will to gain education at any cost amongst the students,” the DC said.

Need of nurses in the state

It's an irony how the government of Arunachal Pradesh has failed to implement the
basic regulation of having 3:1 nurses-
According to Government of India norms one nurse is solely responsible for three patients, but in our state hospitals this is not so.
We did move the administration for creation of posts for staff nurses in the financial
year 2011-
The annual operating plan (AOP) and SPB for the same purpose was cleared by the concern department. But it is a matter of dismay that the file was turned down by the planning department citing resource crunch.
Waiting for a whole financial year, we had hoped the regularization of the contractual nurses would be carried out, but this is not so. The administration should be aware that nurses work relentlessly even when the number of nurses is very low all over the state.
This being a genuine case of negligence from the administrations part, we expect the government will soon take necessary actions to acknowledge the causes of the nurses.
I am strained here to mention that every financial year many posts for the doctors are created, which we don't refute. But on the same note, it’s astonishing to know that equal number of nurses posts are not created.
Being a contractual staff nurse (GNM) myself, I do understand all the hardships we face. Hence I humbly appeal for the kind attention of the administration.
I hope that our cause is pondered upon carefully and hope the administration will create more posts for staff nurses very soon.

Do not underestimate the sentiments
Dear Editor,
People of Siang Basin & victims of Lower Siang hydro electric project warns Tajir Siram not to give press statements without the consent of the public. The above mention person has claimed himself to be the land owner of Siang basin on your esteemed daily on 17th June 2012 and remarked that people opposing the project and who are fighting for the survival of Adi & Galo land are fake.
All the statement of self style president Tajir Siram is totally meaningless. We request him to recall the sentiment of the people on the day of 17, 18 and 20th April 2012 at Jeying, Rottung and Aalo respectively.
On these days you have witnessed the real sentiment of the project affected people. If you really underestimate the sentiment of the people then do survey of the affected area. Know the sentiments of the people instead of becoming president in the paper & news paper.
Many times the world has witnessed the consequence of the people's sentiment.
People are ready to sacrifice their life for the survival of the Adi & Galo land. This was witnessed at Jeying, Rottung and Aalo on the days of proposed public hearing this April.
Tajir Siram who is ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of money should refrain from such statement in future.
Lastly, don't dare to challenge the sentiment of the project affected people.

Underweight Children
According to a study conducted by the School of Public Health at Imperial College, London, the developing world has less than five per cent chance of meeting United Nations’ target of halving the proportion of children who suffer from hunger by 2015. The analysis further reveals that though the nutritional status in South Asian countries has improved significantly, one half of the world’s underweight children still live in South Asia, mostly in India.
It is true that childhood hunger has improved since its peak in 1985. However, insufficient progress has been made, and only five percent of the developing world is on track to meet the UN target. One in five infants and children are moderately or severely underweight, amounting to 110 million children around the world. Further, another 148 million are mildly underweight.
The study found that 61 out of the 141 developing countries are projected to meet
that target. However, in the developing world as a whole, less than five percent
of people have a chance at succeeding. The strongest improvements have been in Asia
and Latin America. The region falling behind is sub-
